Usually, yes—if the part is a common value sold through the right channels. In March 2024, a client called at 4:30 PM with a stopped production line. Not every order needs this treatment. If your deadline has slack, save the freight and run standard ground. But in a true line-down emergency, the math changes fast.

What Are Typical Lead Times as of 2024?

There's no single answer. Commodity MLCCs—0402 and 0603 sizes in X7R/X5R, common capacitance values—are stocked by major distributors, so you can get those in days. Less common values, automotive-grade AEC-Q200 parts, and anything with tight tolerance can run 12 to 20 weeks from the factory. During the 2021-2022 shortage, some series pushed to 30-40 weeks. Murata's manufacturing footprint—Japan, China, Malaysia, the Philippines—helps too: when one region gets disrupted, others can carry the volume.

Design-time advice: check distributor stock before you lock in a BOM. A part that's "standard" today can be backordered tomorrow, and that's true for every manufacturer.

How Do I Avoid Counterfeit Murata Parts?

Counterfeit MLCCs are real. Here's the checklist we use—every time.

  1. Buy only from authorized distributors. Digi-Key, Mouser, Arrow, Avnet, or Murata's direct channel. If a broker's price on a popular GRM series cap is 30% below market, that's a red flag, not a bargain.

All three make reliable MLCCs. Murata has the deepest high-reliability portfolio—AEC-Q200 automotive coverage, broad voltage and dielectric range. Samsung EM is strong for cost-sensitive, high-volume consumer work. TDK brings serious expertise in magnetics plus solid ceramic lines.

For urgent sourcing, the deciding factor is which authorized distributor has stock of the exact value you need, right now. Availability changes weekly. So my advice: qualify multiple sources at design time, not when your line is down.

I should add a boundary here. I'm talking specifically about MLCCs, inductors, and filters. If you're comparing Murata's sensors or battery products against competitors, talk to someone who buys those daily—I'd be guessing.
